Brothers and Sisters of Charity

COMMUNITY COMMENTARY - FOUNDATIONAL SCRIPTURES

(Acts 2:42-47 & Matthew 5 & 6)

I. PURPOSE

To bring into the family of God people of heart.  Those willing to open their hearts to the love of Christ and  to one another.  Those willing to be the littlest of servants.

On a national level  to bring together Catholic or Ecumenical, single, celibate or married brothers and sisters who are called by  God to live The Brothers and Sisters of Charity Rule, according to their own vocational circumstances as an intentional Gospel community.

II. PRAYER

To integrate the deep mystical tradition  of contemplative prayer  into the charismatic experience of today's renewal; to develop a more sacramental approach to life   by further developing the use of both form and the freedom of the arts in a fully integrated  liturgical and charismatic community worship.

III.  STUDY

To seek a more truly catholic (i.e. universal) approach to the contemporary authority and interpretation of Scripture by learning more about the whole early Church which God established to bring forth the Scripture, and applying their authority and interpretation to today's world in a developed way.

To seek an attitude of mutual respect and a practice of quiet sharing when discussing our doctrinal differences in our search for this developed catholic orthodoxy.

To seek to understand and use the Apostle's and/or Nicene Creed as our minimum requirement and gauge of the orthodoxy needed for membership.

IV. LIFESTYLE

To develop and live according to one's own vocational circumstances, a true Franciscan-like spirituality approach to Gospel simplicity, in response to a global awareness of both spiritual and material poverty.

V. MEMBERSHIP  (Domestic Expression)

A six month to one year postulancy.  It is a "getting to know" period.
A one to two year novitiate.  This is a time of serious learning, prayer and putting into practice the Gospel
Profession, both temporary for three years and permanent for life, includes a commitment to God and community  whereby the member makes public their desire to live a life of charity in religious obedience, chastity and evangelical poverty. This is part of the learning experience that takes place over the one and one-half years of study and preparation.
The willingness to meet with other regional brothers and sisters as often as possible  via Cell Groups when and wherever possible.
